What was Enclosure?
Enclosure is when something comes together under on owner ship.
How did the enclosure come into effect?
The farmers wanted it. They farmed on separate strips in a number of fields,
Which was good for small farmers for their own use. They wanted to be able to grow more crops without too much expense to sell to people living in cities and even other countries.
It was implemented by several strips of farmland coming together as a single livestock and woodlands which they under a single ownership.
New inventions were developed due to experiments with land on a single farm which became efficient and productive. Unfortunately with the thousands of enclosure acts passed by parliament some poor farmers were driven from their land and didn’t benefit from the enclosure. The land that was left to them was so small they couldn’t provide even their own needs. They had little choice of work so they went to the cities and became skilled or unskilled workers.
I think this was a advantage because if they didn’t have their industrial revolution what would are farms be like today??
