Listen carefully so you can hear,
Of the memorable ride of Paul Revere.
It happened on the eighteenth of April in 1775,
But no one is alive that can tell you exactly what happened.
He asked his friend to warn him of the British,
By hanging a light in the church belfry tower.
He asked him to hang one lantern if they are coming by land,
And two lanterns if by sea.
Once he sees the lantern he will ride through the town
And tell everyone to get ready to fight.
His friend watches and waits
In the allies and streets;
To hear anything of the British.
Finally he hears the British going down to their boats.
Meanwhile, Paul waits, very restlessly.
Continuously checking the gear o his horse,
And making sure he’ll be fine when he rides.
But mostly he watched the church
Anticipating the lantern/lanterns.
As he watched the tower,
He sees a first light and saddles his horse.
He stops and waits to see a second one.
And yet another light a burned brightly in the belfry.
Quickly he rode into town.
He knew the fate on a nation was in his hands,
He couldn’t let it slip through and shatter.
The horse hooves sparked against the street,
Creating fires as he went.
Defiantly, he rode through town
Yelling and knocking on the doors of the colonists.
No even though some two hundred years later,
People still hear the cries of the man
And the hoof beats of the horse
That saved our nation on one perilous night.
